Designed for the most meticulous athletes, this package is designed to give you\u00a0maximum access to your coach.\u00a0 You'll also be privy to the most up to date scientific testing protocols available.\u00a0 You'll start out with INSCYD<\/a> Metabolic Profiling and follow up with a subjective assessment of your strengths and weaknesses.\u00a0 Each week you'll receive a training prescription for your weekly interval work, allowing you to pace your own training.\u00a0 Each week, you'll email your data to me so I can plug it into Golden Cheetah and evaluate the week's work, how to proceed next and how your fitness is progressing.<\/p>\n

Online Coaching Tools and Requirements<\/h3>\n
Being able to quantify your training is one of the cornerstones of any coaching program. \u00a0It's important for you to be able to ensure you are training within the zones prescribed. \u00a0This means that you will be required to have at least a cycle computer with speed and cadence as well as a heart rate monitor to obtain good results.<\/p>\n

Heart Rate Monitor: A heart rate monitor gives an idea of the athlete's training zones and allows for specific training. \u00a0I'm fond of using an ANT+ or Bluetooth HRM that can sync with multiple devices.\u00a0 [easyazon_link asin=”B00INQVYZ8″ locale=”US” new_window=”yes” nofollow=”yes” tag=”taicoaandthed-20″]This one can be used with free iPhone or Android apps[\/easyazon_link] to create a powerful training tool. \u00a0It can also be used for working with Heart Rate Variability to determine overtraining status.<\/li>\n
Speed\/Cadence cycling computer: A cycling computer with speed and cadence helps to show improvement and specify training cadence zones.\u00a0 [easyazon_link asin=”B00B2PT7WY” locale=”US” new_window=”yes” nofollow=”yes” tag=”taicoaandthed-20″]This Cateye Strada is a good solution[\/easyazon_link] for those who don't want to break the bank on a computer and don't want to hook up their iPhone or Android device.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

A Garmin unit (or similar device) is extremely useful and will help you quantify your training with more accuracy. \u00a0You'll have most of the metrics you need to train effectively right at your fingertips.\u00a0 I personally prefer the [easyazon_link identifier=”B010SDBGQU” locale=”US” tag=”taicoaandthed-20″]Garmin Edge 520[\/easyazon_link], but any Garmin device that can record speed, cadence, power numbers and heart rate will work just fine.<\/li>\n
Power meters are currently the best training tool available for cycling. \u00a0They are the gold standard for quantifying\u00a0work performed as well as being point specific about training zones. \u00a0I recommend Stages Power meters<\/a> for a combination of excellent price, good quality and ease of installation, and they are great supporters of Tailwind Coaching. \u00a0Their power meters are also Bluetooth compatible, so those of you who use your iPhone or Android as a training computer can hook it right up with no adapters.<\/li>\n
A trainer is a useful tool for athletes who train during inclement weather or during winter months, but is not required. \u00a0My personal favorite is the [easyazon_link asin=”B00F4TVDJY” locale=”US” new_window=”yes” nofollow=”yes” tag=”taicoaandthed-20″]Kurt Kinetic Road Machine[\/easyazon_link] because of the linear resistance curve, (more) realistic road feel and coast down, and the indestructibility. \u00a0If you're looking for a more exotic trainer, I'm a big fan of the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01GA6Z8FO” locale=”US” tag=”taicoaandthed-20″]Elite Drivo[\/easyazon_link] for its durability and excellent road feel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
